The WPP Senj is the largest renewable energy initiative in Croatia and represents a significant investment from China in the country. It comprises eight sections and has obtained nine construction permits. Throughout the planning, construction, and trial operation phases, ENERGIJA PROJEKT d.d. adhered strictly to EU and Croatian legal requirements. The company coordinated closely with the Croatian Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, the national company transmission system operator (HOPS), and other relevant authorities to conduct thorough technical inspections of all construction aspects, achieving flawless results. Until July 10th, the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets officially issued all four operational permits for the Senj project, confirming its compliance with EU and Croatian construction standards.
In July, ENERGIJA PROJEKT d.d. submitted its documentation to the Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency (HERA) to apply for an energy license for the WPP Senj. After detailed evaluations by internal experts in technical, legal, and environmental areas, the energy license was officially granted on August 30, 2024.
In addition, the Senj wind power plant has implemented new technologies and value-added services by joining the virtual power plant operated by GEN-I Hrvatska d.o.o. in June. This initiative helps balance the European power grid and creates additional revenue streams. Also, ENERGIJA PROJEKT d.d. is in the process of the registration of Guarantees of Origin (GO) for WPP Senj, aiming to further support sustainable development across European industries through the sale and supply of green energy.
The WPP Senj project highlights the successful collaboration between Chinese and Croatian expertise. Since its inception in late 2019, every phase of the project has demonstrated the power of international cooperation and exchange. Moving forward, the WPP Senj will focus on safe and stable operations, prioritize social benefits, ensure economic returns, provide green energy to local communities, and serve as a model for investment cooperation between the two nations.
